(Projects Home)
EveryBudi Community: Englewood, Illinois - 2015.
I came to the USA again after selling everything I had in Malaysia.
I was asked to leave my sister’s home - I had been there several months already.
Fair enough.
I wanted to help some friends I had met while working at the food pantry. I wanted to empower the community - not pedal dogma.
I took some pictures and formulated some plans and was surprised to find my car window shattered and everything of value removed while visiting a ‘friend’.
I learned that it didn’t matter that I had a car clearly marked as a community project.
I learned a big lesson: No matter what you do, you can be the object of racial prejudice.
It was dangerous to be there.
I put my tail between my legs and scurried back to safer grounds in the north - or so I thought.
